LED lighting in St. Catharines brightens the way

So – I have to say, I’m pretty proud of the story in the Standard detailing just how much money is being saved by the City’s LED conversion of streetlights.

Way back in 2014 (in the last term of Council), Councillor Bruce Williamson and I moved a couple of motions which created this project:

At the September 22, 2014 City Council meeting, Councillor Williamson requested the following:

Motion on LED lighting – Staff report which will provide a business case for implementation of energy efficient lights, citywide, which details the associated costs as well as the expected rate of return

This is in addition to an earlier request from Councillor Siscoe requesting the following:

Report which will provide a business case for potential implementation of LED lights, city wide, which details the associated costs of such a program as well as the expected rate of return; that staff determine if there are any potential partnerships or incentives which may assist with the implementation of a citywide LED lights program

You can find the original report (and the business case I requested) here.

Proud to see the motions by Coun. Williamson and myself have come to fruition with over a million dollars in savings each year.
