RELEASE: Siscoe files nomination papers; begins re-election bid in St. Patrick’s Ward #StCath #VoteSTC #NiagPoli

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

August 14th, 2014

St. Patrick’s Ward City Councillor Mat Siscoe officially filed his nomination papers on Thursday morning, kicking off the beginning of his re-election bid in St. Patrick’s Ward (Ward 4).

“I’m excited by the challenges ahead, and look forward to talking to residents about their priorities in the next 4 years, as well as my accomplishments during this last term of Council” said Siscoe after submitting his forms to the Clerk at St. Catharines City Hall on Thursday.

“There’s a lot of work to do in the next term of Council. We’ve worked hard to continue the revitalization of the City, but Council needs to come to grips with the fiscal realities our residents face, and hold the line on taxes through cost-saving measures.”

Siscoe indicated his platform would consist of three straight-forward priorities:

  • A real commitment to fiscal accountability by holding the line on tax rates in St. Catharines;
  • Dealing with residents priorities for the ward, such as
    • The ongoing traffic problems on Third St,
    • The continued danger of a 406 interchange in the middle of two school zone on First St,
    • The ever-present frustration over the vacant GM lands on Ontario St;
  • A comprehensive strategy to engage residents through better communication from the City and Ward Councillors.

“I’ve been proud to find success on Council this term, by instituting accountability through the recording of Council votes, voting to renew old and damaged infrastructure, and pushing through asset management reforms that will save money for taxpayers in the long-run” Siscoe stated. “As those measures pay off, and Council finds ways to save money on the operational budget, residents will see the payoff of some tough decisions that Councillors will have to make.”

Siscoe is currently completing his first term as St. Patrick’s Ward Councillor, having been elected in the 2010 Municipal Elections.
